My name is Safiyyah Ashanti. I am a mother of 1. I was born in Bridgeport Connecticut, and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia. I started doing my sisters and my mother hair at the age of 12 from there it went from family to friends, from friends to friend of friends. In 1997 I attended Chesapeake Center for Science and Technology a vocational school. I received my cosmetology license in 1999. From there, I worked for Hair Cuttery with a temporary license, until I went to state board and got my official license. Once I received my license I became a full time stylist and I work for the company for 6 years until I moved on to working for myself. ln 2006 is when I establish Ashanti's Hair Studio and/or Ashanti's Hair. In 2010 I competed with a the team at The Bronner Brothers Hair & Barber Battle where our team won the grand prize of $20,000. In 2016 I was giving the opportunity to work with a production for New York Fashion Week and from there I’ve worked New York Fashion Week 6 seasons. I was also fortunate to receive an opportunity to be the official style team for Virgin Island Fashion Week. There we styled for 2 Fashion shows and taught a hair and skincare class at the local vocational school in St. Croix, and we were also the styling team for a fashion show in St. Thomas. From there I have travelled around the country styling hair for clients. New York, Washington DC, North Carolina, California, Las Vegas are just a few places I’ve traveled styling and educating stylist. August 2019 made 20 years as a licensed stylist and I love every bit of my job
